Regensburg. The new Mittelbayerische Zeitung publishing building in Regensburg is not only adorned with green tiles on its facade, it also has modern, green technology on the roof. A photovoltaic system, invisible from below, ensures that the sun does not shine unused up there. The approximately 400-square-meter system from the Regensburg-based solar company Iliotec generates an output of around 35,000 kilowatt hours a year. This would cover the average power consumption of seven four-person households for a year.

The 145 CNPV 240 solar modules are oriented to the south with an inclination of 12 degrees. To ensure that they can withstand all the stresses on the roof, the modules were mounted on the FDGlight+ 2 flat-roof PV system from FISCHER Licht & Metall. Only two weeks after submitting the bid in Mühlhausen, FISCHER had delivered the substructure for the solar system in mid-April.

A 20-meter high freight elevator was used to transport the material from the outside to the roof of the five-story building. Within two weeks, a nine-man team from Iliotec (six fitters, an electrician, planner and site manager) installed the entire system.

In addition to the photovoltaic system, there is a kind of tower on the roof - with the large "M", the logo of the Mittelbayerische Zeitung - and inside it several meeting rooms with a roof terrace. The view of the technology should not be too sober for the journalists and their often prominent interlocutors. FISCHER therefore designed visually appealing mounts for the inverters especially for this project - these are the devices that convert the direct current generated by the solar system into "usable" alternating current.

By mid-June 2013 - a year and a half after construction began - the approximately 320 MZ employees had moved into the new media building near Kumpfmühler Brücke. When the editors began gathering news and information for their articles at their new workstations, the photovoltaic system on the roof above their heads was already busily collecting solar energy.
